Direct Cremation is now widely advertised on television and in the media. It’s a simple way to make arrangements when a funeral is not felt to be necessary or appropriate, or when the family would simply prefer to hold their own form of commemorative event, often around the scattering or burial of the ashes.

But whilst Direct Cremation offers many advantages, it can still be very stark and uncompromising and many people struggle with not being able to say goodbye in some way.

At Fred Stevens, our fully inclusive direct cremation service (see our price list) involves the following:

• Arrangements handled by a single, designated funeral director throughout
• Transfer of the deceased to our funeral home and care in our own private mortuary prior to cremation
• A simple, oak finished coffin
• The option to see the person in our Chapel of Rest
• Transport to the crematorium using a hearse and bearers
• The option to be informed of the date and time of the cremation
• The option to attend and witness the committal (this can only be done by prior arrangement and may involve additional costs)
